Italy is one of the last countries in the world with Sweden and Slovakia where Station Wagons (SW) have remained highly popular which is why there is a monthly update about it on BSCB. However over the last few months their popularity has gone down drastically: in an overall market down a sombre 22%, SW sales are down a deathly 40% year-on-year to 7,416 registrations, bringing the SW market share in Italy to 6.8%, down from 8.9% a year ago.
The Summer holidays have a clear impact on the ranking this month, with large SW trusting the Top 2 spots with out-of-this world SW ratios: the Audi A4 brilliantly takes the lead with 809 sales, meaning 93% of A4s sold in Italy in July were Station Wagons! The A4 is now #3 year-to-date with 6,017 units and 89% SW ratio. The VW Passat ranks 2nd with 778 sales and a superb 92% SW ratio and is now #4 year-to-date at 5,993 unit sand 89% also.
The traditional leaders are kicked down: the Opel Astra is #3 with 747 sales and 62% but stays #2 year-to-date while the Ford Focus is #4 with 715 units and 54% but still leads year-to-date at 8,733 sales and 61%. Notice also the Peugeot 508 at #6 and a very solid 88% SW ratio, the BMW 5 Series up to #7 and the Volvo V60 up to #10.
