Potentially, that pushes the actual cost of the Clubsport north of $180,000. That's more than some people pay for a house, but for the cost of a full-fledged race car, it's still not bad.
Then again, it also serves to underline how affordable the Mazda MX-5 Miata Cup car is. For $53,000, you get a fully-prepped race car that's not nearly as powerful as the GT4 Clubsport but is still equipped for track duty. More than $100,000 in savings would go a long way towards buying extra tires, gas, and the other costs of racing.
The Cayman GT4 Clubsport will supposedly set you back a full $165,000.
If that sounds expensive, keep in mind that racing is expensive. For what you get, it's about in line with what we expected.
Upgrades to the Clubsport over the GT4 include a PDK gearbox, the 911 GT3 Cup car's front suspension, beefed up brakes, a welded-in roll cage, a six-point racing harness, and the removal of excess weight like the passenger seat. A larger fuel tank, and a fire suppression system will be available, as well.
